Enhancing Coastal Resilience Through Tidal Wetland Planning in Kittery
SMPDC is working with the Town of Kittery, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and the Wells Reserve on a grant-funded project to develop preliminary designs for making two critical roadways and adjacent natural areas more resilient to coastal flooding and climate change. The project will include assessing site conditions; modeling existing and future hydrology and flooding hazards; evaluating opportunities to protect infrastructure and restore local saltmarsh habitat through nature-based strategies; developing engineering designs for adapting transportation, water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure to be more resilient to sea level rise; and community engagement.
