Community Resilience Partnership
SMPDC is a service provider for the State’s Community Resilience Partnership (CRP), lead by the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future. The CRP provides grants and support to assist communities to reduce carbon emissions, transition to clean energy, and become more resilient to climate change. As a service provider SMPDC provides technical assistance to city and towns to enroll in the program and apply for Community Action Grants.
Community Enrollment in the CRP
SMPDC has enrolled the communities of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Kittery, Biddeford, Fryeburg, Eliot, Berwick, Old Orchard Beach, and Ogunquit in the CRP and is currently working with the towns of Alfred, South Berwick, Parsonsfield, and Hollis to enroll. Once enrolled, communities can apply for Community Action Grants of up to $50,000 for municipal projects, or $125,000 for multi-municipal projects.
Community Action Grants
Community Action Grants can support two categories of climate action by communities: 1) actions from the List of Community Actions, an approved list of climate mitigation and adaptation activities that align with the strategies of Maine Won’t Wait, and 2) other projects proposed by a community that support capacity building, planning, and implementation projects. SMPDC was awarded a multi-municipal Community Action Grant to support the Southern Maine Climate Action Planning (CAP) Cohort.

- Technical expertise and assistance
- Project guidance
- Opportunities to participate in regional projects and to collaborate with other communities with similar goals
- Assistance with private, state, and federal grants
- Extra help with resilience projects if you have little to no staff capacity and are more socially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change
